Bandh partial in Vijayawada

Public inconvenienced due to the closure of banks, shops and educational institutes
Public were put to severe inconvenience due to the ‘bandh’ call given by Bandar Port Sadhana Committee and the leaders of various opposition parties demanding early construction of port, on Friday.
Almost all the banks remained close, the educational institutes, the shops, hotels and other business establishments downed shutters till noon. Buses were not operated for a few hours due to the bandh.
However, the shops opened and the APSRTC plied buses after 2 p.m.

Heavy rush was seen in the bus station due to summer vacations. Buses that came from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Rajahmundry were stopped at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) for some time as a preventive measure.
Machilipatnam Parliament Member Konakalla Narayana, Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, CPI district secretary Akkineni Vanaja, city unit secretary Donepudi Shankar, CPI (M) leader Ch. Babu Rao and others staged a rasta roko at the PNBS.
Rally
The protestors stopped buses proceeding to Avanigadda, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nagayalanka, Vuyyuru, Jaggaiahpeta and other towns from the PNBS in Krishna district to enforce the district bandh.
They took out a rally in the city forcing the shopkeepers and hotels to down shutters. The agitators also prevented the city buses from making trips from Governorpet Depot for some time. While a few shops and hotels were closed on Bandar Road and Eluru Road by evening the life returned to normalcy by evening.
State blamed
Speaking on the occasion, the opposition party leaders blamed the government for delay in constructing the Bandar Port. As the local public representatives failed to bring pressure on the government, the project was pending for the last four years, they alleged.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who visited Krishna district, had assured to start the Bandar Port project works last year, but failed to keep his promise, they alleged.
The officials should start land acquisition process for the port and take up construction works without any delay, they said and threatened to intensify the agitation.
