127 feared dead in deadly plane crash in Islamabad, Pakistan
Islamabad, Apr 21: It was a deadly Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan when a civilian aircraft carrying close to 127 passengers met with a crash due to stormy weather. The aircraft crashed while it was nearing the Islamabad airport on Friday evening. There are no reports of survivors. The flight that met with the tragic end was Bhoja Air 737 and was on its maiden flight.
The incident happened when the commercial airline was nearing the airport for landing when it crashed a few miles from Islamabad airport, near Chaklala airbase, Rawalpindi. According to reports in Geo News, Boeing 737 had 129 passengers on board, including 57 women, 55 men, 11 children and six crew members.
The plane is believed to have took off from Karachi at 5 pm and was supposed to have landed in Islamabad at 6:50 pm, but crashed just before landing. Rescue teams rushed to the area, and officials recovered at least 110 bodies from the site.
The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has cited bad weather that led to the crash. According to reports from eyewitnesses, the plane was alreay in flames when it was descending to land. Other reports have cited that the aircraft was struck by lightning, since during landing there was heavy rains accompanied by thunder storm and hail. The airplane’s flight data recorder (Black Box) has been recovered.
