Vicky Donor - Movie Review
Every movie review of Vicky Donor including Oneindia has given a thumbs up, as it should be. I had seen the trailers of the movie last month, Annu Kapoor’s clips in the trailer was enough to drag me to see the movie. Sunday afternoons are the best time to go for a movie in Bangalore as majority of the citizens are busy snoozing and roads are all yours!
Dr Baldev Chadha played by Annu Kapoor an infertility clinic owner is one of the most animated doctors you would ever come across. His fingers are always oscillating to portray a sperm. He even goes to the extent of characterising sperms as ‘confused sperm’ and ‘greedy sperm’.
Dr Chadha keeps reminding the audience that one shouldn’t be stressed as the sperm count would go down. He says villagers are just not stressed, hence a mere ‘touch’ produces children in rural areas and in urban areas every night the mantra is ‘I am tired honey, another day’.
Every character in the movie has played their role brilliantly. The hero Ayushmann Khurrana’s grandmother is way too cool and the hero Vicky rightly says there are only two things modern in Delhi – the Metro and his grandmom. The nightly binging scenes of his mom and grandmom, especially with goggles is hilarious.
For most of us except for Annu Kapoor all others are fresh faces. Yami Gautam (Ashima in the movie) is gorgeous and ravishing. Clearly shows one needs to be truly beautiful instead of dancing in the rains and running around the trees. Yami’s father played a very important role in the movie, he does make you laugh when he objects to Ashima wanting to marry Vicky. The Punjabi-Bong marriage had its moments, it clearly showed which community wants to remain intellectual and which one wants to enjoy life.
All elders in the movie – Vicky’s mom, grandmom and Ashima’s father play a very responsible and positive role unlike the usual movies in which they instigate problems in the marriages.
The director Shoojit Sircar has been brilliant. He clearly has brought out the best in each of the actors in the movie. John Abraham’s good days seem to be showing up with his recent hits of Desi Boyz,Housefull 2 and now as one of the producers of Vicky Donor.
The humorous movie has few scenes of Kolkata, Bengalis. Not sure if the movie will be banned in no-humor zone of West Bengal.
Real life is very different from reel life. One question I would like to ask Ayushmann Khurrana is "Have people approached you for donating your sperm? If so, would you consider donating?".
The movie ran for just little over 2 hours, refreshing storyline and no unwanted songs, what a blessing. All in all Vicky Donor is an entertaining sperm. Go for it.
